In early 2011 I approached my good friend and fellow photographer Denis Duquette to see if I could do some behind-the-scenes and documentary work on one of his upcoming fashion or portrait sessions. I was in desperate need of a personal project to both motivate and inspire me.
Denis quickly mentioned that he had something in the works, with details to come later. The project, a collaboration with Moncton portrait and wedding photographer Aleksandr (Sasha) Onyshchenko, turned out to be what was eventually called The Marathon Shoot. During a single day in April 2011, Denis and Sasha photographed a combined 27 models, using unique concepts for each, over a period of 18 hours.
My role, as documentary photographer, was to gather behind-the-scenes and candid images throughout the Marathon Shoot, including the set-up the night before. My stills would be combined with video, and Sasha's and Denis' final images, to compile a fairly broad, multimedia portfolio that would both document their individual skills as portrait photographers as well as their ability to conceive, plan and undertake such a large effort.
Assignment: Documentary
Client: Personal, Aleksandr Onyshchenko, Denis Duquette
